Happy Thursday! Today I want to show you how you can create a unique and personal lampshade in a few very easy steps. Add some color and a personal touch to your interior.
Here�s what you need:
A lampshade, I used J�ra from Ikea. It has a fabric top layer but the inside is made of plastic so the paint doesn�t bleed through.
Besides that - you need the hexagon shaped mini Gelli� plate, a brayer, stamps (they have to be bigger then the hexagon Gelli� plate, I used the new �Mixed Media Flowers #1� that I designed for Carabelle Studio), acrylic blocks, acrylic paint (I mixed my own color from Amsterdam acrylics), baby wipes, a paper piercer, a needle and embroidery thread.
Apply some paint to a craft sheet and roll out to cover your brayer with paint. Apply the paint to your stamp using the brayer. This way you will get a nice even layer of paint covering your stamp without paint going into the small openings.
Stamp on the Gelli� plate to transfer the paint from the stamp to the plate.
Then use the Gelli� plate as a stamp to create a border around the edge of the lampshade.
Make sure to clean the Gelli� plate with a baby wipe between stamping to keep the prints clean and crisp.
Why use a Gelli� plate and not stamp on the lampshade directly?
First of all, you will not get the hexagon shape unless you use a stencil which is more difficult and messy than using the Gelli� plate. Secondly, because of the consistency of the Gelli� plate, adding the paint to the lampshade goes much smoother and with a better result than stamping on the fabric directly.
Once you have completed the border you have to let the paint dry well. Then use a paper piercer to make holes around the edges of the hexagons. I made one on every corner and one in between the corners.
Then I started embroidering but I made a mistake. I crossed over to the next hole, like you see on the picture below, but then I realized that I could see those threads on the right side of the lamp when the light shines through.
So instead of crossing over I had to go back into the previous hole and then continue. See pictures. Go along all the edges of all hexagons this way and your lampshade is done.
You have to have some patience while making the holes and doing the embroidery but the result is worth it!
